The Monroe Tournament - 3rd Place

The team poses for a picture.
Chase is #44.

Chase #44 and his friend David #40. David made the winning shot, a "3" with less than two seconds on the clock. It was really incredible. I can't wait to see the video.

Catching up....

So, where do I begin. I guess I will start by educating women of all ages, whether you just turned 40; have already turned 40 or haven't even approached 40.........do your monthly breast exam, because I hadn't been, and found a lump and have no idea how long it had been there, except for knowing it was not there this past April; but it was on January 15th. I was lucky, it turned out to be nothing, or so I've been told over the phone by a nurse who says your tests were clear and the doctor will go over things in detail at your appt. in February. There is nothing more frightening then at 9 pm on a Thursday night to find a lump. I guess I made a pretty convincing case the next day when I called the doctor and said I can't wait until Feb. 3 to see a doctor as they were able to fax in an order at the hospital and I got the test that same day only to have to wait until Wednesday to find out they were clear. Still alot of unaswered questions but I was told I have nothing to worry about.

Chase had a couple of games last week, they won two and lost one. We took in one night of the Macon tournament through the middle of the week on the Varsity level; the night the SS Boys scored 105 points! On Friday night Chelsey's team had practice and then I came home to an old movie, "Kindergarten Cop". I hadn't see it in a long time, those kids were quite hilarious in the beginning. Chase had games on Mon., Thurs and Sat. Saturday was a make up game from one that got cancelled on a snow day. So Saturday was a day of basketball in which we went from the Shelbina Middle School for 3 games to Moberly for Chelsey's game then on to the Macon Tournament to watch SS in the finals for both boys and girls. Chelsey didn't win her game but they scored a season high 13 points and continue to improve. Both SS teams lost.

Needless to say, I did not get out of my pj's on Sunday. I got up late, took a nap, and then just hung out the rest of the time. And of course by the end of the evening had developed another of my famous headaches which is still with me even now. If anybody out there has some suggestions, please, suggest away. So far the neurologist is about 0-3 on helping out from the number of times I've seen him.

This is the last week of middle school basketball; Chase plays Wed. in Monroe during their tournament and then Saturday, either for 3rd or 1st; depends on the outcome of Wed. Chelsey has finished Moberly basketball and now we fall into Shelbina Lions Club Basketball. More on that later.

This Past Week In Basketball

Let's see, Chase had a game on Monday and they won but the game on Thursday was cancelled since there was no school that day due to the "frigid temperature" outside. I went to the Varsity game alone on Friday night and watched a couple pretty entertaining games. Chelsey's 5th grade girls played 2 games on Sunday; we won the first game 7 - 5; yes, the score was only 7 - 5 but what matters is who has the most points at the end of the buzzer in the 4th quarter and that was us. They really did a good job even though the score doesn't reflect it. Then we had to hustle to the other building for a double header. We lost, 9 - I don't know, in the high 30's; but the most important thing is they are learning and improving and this game they scored more points than any other game they had played. The game ended on a sour note as one of our players was hurt and later that night I found out she had tore some muscles in the top of her arm between the wrist and the elbow. She'll be missed and we're sorry she won't be able to play the last Moberly game, but we are thankful no broken bones.

Happy 40th Birthday Kara!!

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
(40 candles)

(take a deep breathe and make a wish)

Congratulations Kara, cousin of mine, I am so glad you've joined the ranks of turning 40 today. I didn't get her a real card out in the mail via snail mail to reach her in time; nor did I even get the free e-card emailed to her; but I did sing happy birthday to her on my cell phone making a voice recording and then emailing the special birthday gram to her in honor of this special day.

This was Kara and I on the cruise the cousins took 2 years ago.

Anybody Got a Free Website for Blog Backgrounds?

Ok, so the website I had been using for free backgrounds, the cutest blog on the block, it not available and my blog is in desperate need of an update but I don't know where to look for the "free stuff". Does anybody have any suggestions?

The Weekend

Saturday a.m. I spent some addtional time on work stuff; I think I might actually go to work on Monday morning and not feel like I am in a hole I can't get out of. Chelsey came home after lunch and then we went and got Chase at his friends house and went home and got ready to attend the South Shelby Tournament. Both S Shelby teams were playing for first. The game didn't start until 6 pm but Chase was adamant about leaving before 5 pm to get a seat. I kinda thought that it was ridiculous but as it turned out, he was right. The bleachers were already full when we got there but I found a seat with some friends who had some saved but had room for me. Thank goodness I had not taken in much liquid thoughout the day because when you are on the top row in a crowded gym, it's a "forever hold your pee" time. Oh, I guess I could have said a lot of excuse me's and made it to the bottom and out to the hall but I was able to wait until we got home. We were all calling who got the bathroom from the car.

Chelsey had 2 games in Moberly Sunday afternoon. The first game they came really close on but just couldn't manage to pull out the win. The second game was played against a much more experienced team and it was heartbreaking for the girls. It's hard to lose, especially when you are young like that. I try to encourage the girls that every game they play they gain experience themselves but it's hard. But we'll keep working and keep playing.

This Week's Happenings

I returned to work on Monday from being on vacation the week following Christmas and wished I had either not gone on vacation or just stayed. The following day I woke up not feeling well but knew it was imperative that I go to work so I headed off only to get 40 min. south to get sick and realized I had to turn around. I thought it was the flu again but later think it was the migraine that made me sick as the pain often does. I was pretty out of it. I continued to work the rest of the week and got to feeling better every day. The South Shelby Basketball Tournment has been going on this week and Chase went 2 nights and had his own games 2 nights and now on Friday he's not home. Is that any surprise? He's gone to spend the night with a friend as they are going to butcher hogs in the morning. The boys middle school team did add 2 wins to their credit and think we have a couple of games next week. We had basketball practice with Chelsey's team this week and continue our weekly games at Moberly. So far they haven't won but they continue to improve their skills and their knowledge of the game and have definitely learned to be more aggressive. Chelsey also managed to get away tonight to spend the night with a friend and I spent the evening in front of the TV with my laptop working. There is something so wrong about being in your PJ's on a Friday night by 7:30 pm working.......

The Big Four "OH" 40

Well, as most of you know, my 40th birthday was Dec. 30. As I am always reminded every year, it was a "very cold day" when you were born. I wish I could tell you I knew what the weather was like this year but unfortunately I spent my birthday afternoon and evening on the couch and running to the bathroom to barf as I had the flu; and no, it wasn't any "brown bottle" flu from early celebrating!!!! Guess I'll have to do some belated celebrating and Happy Belated to all those I know who share this beloved day as our birthday.
